Extending the Gift of Hospice With a Tax-Wise Gift

Marilyn and Paul Asmuth

Marilyn and Paul Asmuth’s giving spirit will live on with their decision to name Providence Community Health Foundation Napa Valley as a beneficiary of Marilyn’s IRA.

While Marilyn and Paul Asmuth are well known in the Napa Valley community—Paul is the general manager at the Napa Valley Reserve and Marilyn is the executive advisor at local investment firm RBO & Co.—they’re probably more widely known for their service to others.

They founded The Napa Valley Community Forest in 2011, are deeply involved in Grace Church’s ministry, and Marilyn is a member of the Napa Threshold Choir and a longtime patient volunteer for Hospice Napa Valley.

Service is a priority in their daily life. Now they’ve extended that service to future generations, through their estate plan.

“If you have an individual retirement account, you can designate a nonprofit as a beneficiary and there is no tax assessed,” explains Marilyn. “The organization has a future donation, and neither you and your heirs nor your estate will pay income taxes on the distribution, so it’s of benefit to all parties.

“Hospice Napa Valley was my first choice to support, so we named Providence Community Health Foundation Napa Valley (PCHFNV) as a beneficiary of my IRA. I felt firsthand the comfort and dignity at the end of life that hospice can provide when one of my sisters was diagnosed at a young age with metastatic breast cancer. We moved in with her family and became her hospice before I even knew what the service was.

“That experience led me to become a patient volunteer for Hospice Napa Valley for more than 10 years now, and I have chaired and co-chaired the Foundation’s annual gala fundraiser. I’ve worked alongside the patient care teams and the administration and have seen how much love there is across this organization. Including PCHFNV in our estate plan gives me peace, knowing our community will be able to draw benefit from this service in the future.

“Everyone, somehow at some point, will be touched by hospice care. That is why I recommend others to consider including Providence Community Health Foundation Napa Valley in their estate plans,” shares Marilyn.

Like Marilyn, you, too, can ensure future generations benefit from exceptional professional healthcare and compassionate support by including Providence Community Health Foundation Napa Valley in your estate plan.
