Passion for Mission Leads to Forever Gift

Kathi Metro

Inspired by the care her mother received, former board member Kathi Metro created a legacy gift

When asked why she'd served so long as a board member of Collabria Care, now Providence Community Health Foundation Napa Valley, Kathi recalls her first experience with our services, when her mother was in the last month of a years-long, tenacious battle with cancer. Kathi says, "I felt moved by the passion, by the caring… from somebody I didn't even know, reaching out to my family."

From a young age, Kathi Metro knew two things. She wanted to be a banker and she always wanted to make a difference.

While working her way up from an entry-level position to eventually an Executive VP and Chief Credit Officer for Vintage Bank and later Bank of Napa, she served on the board of directors for many local non-profits including 8 years on the board of Collabria Care – Collabria Hospice.

"What kept me there and kept me engaged was learning about the work, the passion, the commitment, the people, the drive, and the need that this community had for these services," she said.

"It was important I join the Legacy Society because I want to help ensure the sustainability of the organization and ensure members of our community have the opportunity to make their own choice in health care." Adds Kathi: "Legacy is an important base—especially at times when the organization needs the liquidity to provide services to our most vulnerable."

Kathi termed off the board in July of 2021, but her giving back has not stopped. She recently became a Hospice patient volunteer. When asked why she wanted to volunteer? Kathi recounts that their very presence addressed the central question of how to embrace what she calls a "peaceful transition." "I believe so much in the mission," she says. "I believe in the mission, and I believe in everyone's right to a peaceful transition from this life to the next, however that transition is understood."

Kathi's commitment to service and thoughtful generosity will be felt by the families in our community today and tomorrow.
